Local

All dollars stay locally in Worcester, Wicomico, Somerset & Dorchester Counties and the organization is locally governed by local volunteer leaders.

Stewardship
The local United Way spends hundreds of hours every year to ensure each contribution is directed to programs that are efficient and demonstrate measurable results. Additionally, each year United Way analyzes all agency budgets, audits, tax forms and then visits each agency to see programs in action first hand ... all to ensure donor's dollars are spent where the needs are greatest and will have the most impact.

Accountability
The local United Way maintains the highest level of accountability to ensure they are in compliance with all state, federal, local and non-profit standards. Administrative costs are currently at 19.8% … far below the national average of 37% for charities.

Efficiency
The local United Way provides services for the Lower Shore’s four counties with a total staff of 10 employees. Additionally, they save the non-profit community thousands of hours in administrative dollars allowing agencies to concentrate on providing services instead of fundraising all year long.

Impact
The local United Way was able to touch over 1 in 3 Lower Shore residents in 2018…and is the best way to make the most difference for the most people and be assured contributions are being used wisely. Outside of government, United Way is the largest provider of funds and services currently totaling over $1 million annually.

Focused
United Way focuses all of its resources to programs that 1) Help children succeed - Education 2) Provide emergency assistance for those in crisis - Financial Stability and 3) Ensure critical support to our aging & vulnerable neighbors - Health.

Payroll Deduction
Through payroll deduction, United Way creates the opportunity for everyone to give back to the community.  It is convenient, affordable and an easy way to make a difference.

Designations
Although 90% of local donors choose not to designate to a specific United Way agency, impact area or location, the option is available for those who give $100 or more. If an employee wishes to designate their gift of any size to their hometown, their contribution will be directed to that United Way.

Leadership
The veteran staff leadership has more than 70 combined years of experience serving our community through the local United Way and other non-profit organizations…and the Board of Directors is comprised of 35 leadership volunteers representing all four counties.

Leadership Circle Members, those who donate a minimum of $250 annually, are eligible to win a $1,000 shopping gift card provided by First Shore Federal. Anchor Society members, those who donate a minimum of $500 annually, are eligible to win a $2,500 dream vacation of your choice provided by PNC Bank.
